TVP launches FTA platform on ASTRA
The public Polish television Telewizja Polska SA (TVP) launched a free-to-air platform on ASTRA on 15th September 2009. TVP has therefore extended its satellite capacity contracts for the use of two transponders at ASTRA’s main orbital position 19.2 degrees East. TVP has been using this capacity since 2005. TVP is the largest public TV broadcaster in Central and Eastern Europe. ››
Amazonas 2 satellite is integrated for launch
Ariane 5’s payload fairing is hoisted into position for installation over Amazonas 2 in the satellite staging area of the Spaceport’s Final Assembly Building. Final payload integration is underway for Arianespace’s fifth Ariane 5 mission of 2009, with the Amazonas 2 telecommunications satellite now encapsulated in its payload fairing. ››
Animal Planet HD in CYFRA+
On 16th of September 2009, subscribers of the satellite platform CYFRA+ have gained an access to Animal Planet HD. Until 11th of November channel can be viewed by all subscribers of the platform with has at least one HD option activated. This is the ninth high-definition channel available in CYFRA+, other ones include: CANAL+ Film HD, CANAL+ Sport HD, National Geographic Channel HD, HBO HD, Filmbox HD, MTVNHD, Eurosport HD and Eurosport 2 HD. ››
MTV2 in HD on Eurobird 9A satellite
Eutelsat Communications, in a consortium assembling Magyar Telekom and eVision, has been selected by Hungary’s national public broadcaster, Magyar Televízió (MTV), to broadcast its Magyar TV2 channel across Europe using the EUROBIRD™ 9A satellite. The flagship general entertainment channel is now available on a free-to-air basis in both Standard Digital and High-Definition versions. more ››
GlobeCast invests €2million
GlobeCast has renewed and significantly expanded its contract with UEFA in a deal to provide HD coverage of the UEFA Champions League and HD and SD coverage of the UEFA Europa League to non-European rights holders. As a result, GlobeCast has made a significant investment of more than €2million in HD upgrades for its two UK sites, making it one of the most HD capable ad hoc service providers in the world. more ››

FTV HD is 11th channel in high definition available in Vectra cable network offer. Channel has been added on 28th of August. FTV HD is available to Platinum Package subscribers with HD decoders. Sci-Fi HD in Poland?
NBC Universal Global Networks plans to introduce Sci Fi channel in high definition in Poland. It would be HD version of the Sci Fi channel available in SD but of course with a much better picture quality. NBC Universal will soon begin talks on introducing Sci Fi HD in Poland. more ››
BBC HD in Poland since 1st of December
New high definition channel BBC HD will appear in Poland on 1st of December 2008, at the beginning it will be only available in English version. Station should be added to the offer of Cyfrowy Polsat and chosen cable networks. English BBC HD is available in free-to-air version on Astra 2D - 28,2E. more ››
HD channels in Cyfrowy Polsat still free
It seems that Cyfrowy Polsat will extend the promotion for HD channels to subscribers who have bought Samsung HD decoder or CI module with HD. The original plan was to finish the promotion on 30th of June 2008. No new decision regarding the access to HD channels has been taken. more ››
Al Jazeera Sport broadcasts Euro 2008 in HD
The global technology provider, SIDSA, secures Al Jazeera Sport platform with KeyFly Conditional Access System to protect its High Definition (HD) content. It also controls viewers access to channels with sporting events such as: Spanish Football League, Italian League, Euro 2008 and Formula 1. Al Jazeera Sport consists of three SD and one HD channel. more ››

Hello HD platform in Hungary
On 1st May 2008 a new high definition pay-tv digital platform will be launched in Hungary - Hello HD. Two EuroBird 9 (9°E) transponders (66 and 68) have been chosen for Hello HD platform that will broadcast in DVB-S2. Hello HD is a third Hungarian satellite platform, remaining two are: UPC Direct (Astra 19,2E) and Digi TV (Intelsat 10-02 1W). more ››
