The public Polish television Telewizja Polska SA (TVP) launched a free-to-air platform on ASTRA on 15th September 2009. TVP has therefore extended its satellite capacity contracts for the use of two transponders at ASTRA’s main orbital position 19.2 degrees East. TVP has been using this capacity since 2005. TVP is the largest public TV broadcaster in Central and Eastern Europe. ››
Ariane 5’s payload fairing is hoisted into position for installation over Amazonas 2 in the satellite staging area of the Spaceport’s Final Assembly Building. Final payload integration is underway for Arianespace’s fifth Ariane 5 mission of 2009, with the Amazonas 2 telecommunications satellite now encapsulated in its payload fairing. ››
On 16th of September 2009, subscribers of the satellite platform CYFRA+ have gained an access to Animal Planet HD. Until 11th of November channel can be viewed by all subscribers of the platform with has at least one HD option activated. This is the ninth high-definition channel available in CYFRA+, other ones include: CANAL+ Film HD, CANAL+ Sport HD, National Geographic Channel HD, HBO HD, Filmbox HD, MTVNHD, Eurosport HD and Eurosport 2 HD. ››
Sci-Fi Channel will change its name to Syfy. Rebranding will take place on 7th of July in the United States and in autumn a new name will appear in other countries offering the channel, but with the exception of Poland where meaning of the word "syfy" doesn't allow for that. more ››
TV Market 24 company has asked National Broadcasting Council for broadcasting license. Its shopinng channel would have the same name - TV Market 24. After receiving permission to broadcast the company will immediately launch the new station. more ››
Rebel TV is a new television station from 4fun.tv. Rebel TV will offer rock music, smooth jazz, thematic programmes and materials for adults. According to the plans, the second channel from 4fun.tv should start transmission in September or October. Rebel TV is a station for older audience than MTV. more ››
TVN Group has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2008 and the whole year, results were the best in operator's history. TVN Group is financially strong and has strengthened its position in the main target group. Results of the company in 2008 were very good which has been affected by growth in revenues and EBITDA. more ››
Superstacja has applied for a bankruptcy but its chairman Ryszard Krajewski does not intend to end the broadcast. Apparently this situation has nothing to do with the crisis or finanses... Superstacja has debts but only to shareholders. Channel needs restructurisation and has to meet its creditors. more ››
TVN24 has plans to use a virtual studio in mid-March 2009 which would appear in some programmes, such as the "Political Scanner". This will allow to diversify the set. Next step for TVN24, also planned for March, is the introduction of 16/9 picture format. more ››

Documentary channel Planete has started transmission in 16/9 picture format. In January and February there will be 22 premieres in 16/9 on Planete. Channel's viewers will have better, widescreen picture with new quality. Number of programmes in 16/9 format is going to be increased every month. more ››
