TVP launches FTA platform on ASTRA
The public Polish television Telewizja Polska SA (TVP) launched a free-to-air platform on ASTRA on 15th September 2009. TVP has therefore extended its satellite capacity contracts for the use of two transponders at ASTRA’s main orbital position 19.2 degrees East. TVP has been using this capacity since 2005. TVP is the largest public TV broadcaster in Central and Eastern Europe. ››
Amazonas 2 satellite is integrated for launch
Ariane 5’s payload fairing is hoisted into position for installation over Amazonas 2 in the satellite staging area of the Spaceport’s Final Assembly Building. Final payload integration is underway for Arianespace’s fifth Ariane 5 mission of 2009, with the Amazonas 2 telecommunications satellite now encapsulated in its payload fairing. ››
Animal Planet HD in CYFRA+
On 16th of September 2009, subscribers of the satellite platform CYFRA+ have gained an access to Animal Planet HD. Until 11th of November channel can be viewed by all subscribers of the platform with has at least one HD option activated. This is the ninth high-definition channel available in CYFRA+, other ones include: CANAL+ Film HD, CANAL+ Sport HD, National Geographic Channel HD, HBO HD, Filmbox HD, MTVNHD, Eurosport HD and Eurosport 2 HD. ››
New managing director of strategy in Virgin Media
Andrew Barron of Modern Times Group is to become new managing director of strategy in Virgin Media. In 2002 Barron joined MTG as CEO of Viasat Broadcasting, masterminding the DVB-T platform’s switch in conditional access systems. more ››
Thailand's pay-TV free to advertise
Advertising will appear in Thailand’s cable and satellite channels for the first time due to a temporary licence from the government. Channels will be able to screen six minutes of advertising per hour for the whole next year. more ››
RTL to sell RTL Shop
Bertelsmann, German media company, plans to sell its shopping channel RTL Shop. Channel is transmitted through Astra 19,2E - 12,188 GHz, pol. H, SR 27500, FEC 3/4. Analogue signal of RTL Shop is also available on Astra 19,2E - 11,244 GHz, pol. H. more ››
MTV Dance in UPC Direct
MTV Dance appeared in UPC Direct offer and it replaced MTV Base. Channel is available for Sky Digital subscribers (Astra 2 - 28,2°E), in French version on CanalSat (Astra - 19,2°E) and TPS (Hot Bird - 13°E). MTV Dance is also automatically available on Canal Digitaal, France Telecom Cable, NC Numéricable, Noos Numérique & TV Vlaanderen. more ››
Discovery World to replace Discovery Civilisation
Discovery Civilisation Channel, available in multiregional platform Digi TV, will change its name to Discovery World on 18th April 2008. Discovery Civilisation is offered in Hungarian and Romanian language in Digi TV through Intelsat 10-02 1W - 12,723GHz, pol. H (SR 27500, FEC 3/4) and it’s encoded in Nagravision 2. more ››
ORF1 in HD since Euro 2008
ORF1 HD will be launched on 7th June 2008 – on the first day of football championships Euro 2008. Polish Polsat Sport HD will use ORF’s high definition signal. ORF1 HD will be produced and transmitted in DVB-S2, 720p (1280x720) standard and MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC) compression with a multiple sound. more ››

Sky Digital changes its EPG
Sky plans to change its EPG in order to create more spaces in 13 of its genres. Existing channels will move up in the guide but they will retain their positions relative to each other. more ››
Cable TV grows in Germany
German cable association Deutscher Kabelverband announced that more than 4 million cable households use digital television and also opt for internet and telephony. more ››
German Arte HD in 2009
On 1st January 2009 the German version of the pan-European cultural channel Arte will start regular transmissions in HD on Astra. The French high definition version of the channel will be available for Franch DVB-T viewers earlier, channel will start its MPEG-4 HD broadcasts later this year. more ››
